Welcome to the Energy Diplomat Substack. I am a veteran government official who has loyally served numerous Administrations across multiple decades in various countries. My expertise lies at the nexus of energy, climate, and geopolitics. In my profession, I execute the strategies and policies set forth by political leadership. I often agree with the policies and objectives put forward. At times, I disagree and will voice my opinions on how best to shape policy to meet objectives. But at the end of the day, whatever my personal beliefs are, I am tasked to carry out the desires of my nation’s leadership. This substack is an opportunity for me to present my personal assessment on critical developments, free from any professional constraints — these views are mine, and mine alone. My aim is to provide useful information and analysis to all who are interested in these issues, and hope that what I write will balance what we see from governments, activists, and the media.

Why Should You Give Energy Diplomat a Chance?

These are just a few of the headlines we’ve seen this summer. The rampant fear mongering of the virtue signaling media and the radically uninformed extinction rebellion types have it all wrong, and the narrow-minded “Save the Planet” politicians are causing more harm environmentally, economically, and to human life than most of the public even know. So let me educate you. I am the diplomat behind Energy Diplomat. For over two decades I have worked with governments, world leaders, companies, militaries, nonprofits, and NGOs around the world developing and executing policy on energy, climate, and geopolitics.
My goals for this newsletter?
To share facts, not feelings.
To inform, not scare.
To educate, not indoctrinate.
To establish an open-minded community that can exchange ideas on hot topics (see what I did there?) in energy, climate, and geopolitics using common sense, honest data, and diplomacy.
I will do my best to write the truth, given my experience and expertise, while acknowledging that I won’t get everything right. I am adding my voice to those that are speaking out about the true challenges we face across the energy, climate, and geopolitcal nexus in the hope that concrete, logical, and beneficial changes, including emissions reductions, actually happen while not endangering huge swathes of society.
